    Question Orion's Premium 190mm F/5.3 Mak-Newt

Was wondering if this product is listed anywhere as a complete kit? Meaning, does it come with everything I would need to take it outside and set it up.....ie: The Orion Atlas EQ-G Equatorial Mount w/GOTO Controller.

I've searched the internet, and came up with ordering seperately. But was hoping that a kit price would be easier on the shipping.

    Hi Scott,

    Welcome to AFN!

I've never seen it offered as a complete package. Many amateurs that would upgrade to that scope already have the EP's, diagonal, mount, etc. so by offering it as a "stand alone" OTA they have a better chance of selling more of them.

Do you have a scope currently?

Wouldn't call it a scope....Meade ETX-70, it's old and seen some better days. Time to get serious....started reading reviews and I'm going to purchase this optic before the end of the month.

    Thanks for the welcome!

The particualr scope you have in mind is primarily designed as an astrograph so this is probably why sold as OTA only

    Good luck

I saw the package you linked me to. Already have a couple of digital cameras.....

Probably just have to 'pay the piper' and get just what I need in seperate pieces, pay the extra for shipping, and live with it. Don't have a lot of room for extra stuff, and I never seem to get my money back by selling the extra pieces.

    Unrelated question:
What does this mean? I've seen it in the corner above the text....

Hi Scott and welcome to the forum.
Neat bit of kit your looking at.

I've been looking at this, it came to my notice just as I had decided what new kit to buy, now I don't know what to buy... I need a long think about it.

Maksutov Newtonian - Skywatcher Explorer 190MN Mak-Newt Astrograph

The best of luck on your quest for new kit.

    Cheers

    Hi Scott,

I think what Trevor was referring to in his post:

The particular scope you have in mind is primarily designed as an astrograph so this is probably why sold as OTA only
is that the Mak-Newt has fairly large secondary, and you are losing 31% of your light gathering capacity to it. Not the best for visual observing, but works great for astrophotography.

The "Thanks" is a button you will see at the bottom right corner of every post. It is a way for you to say "Thanks!" to someone for giving you good info, or when someone appreciates your comments.
