Default Summer's here and I want to get back into astronomy.

    Hi,

Summer's here and I want to get back into astronomy. This looked like a great place to start!

I haven't done much star gazing since I've lived in town, but this year I want to make more of an effort to get to the beach in Pensacola, FL US.

I like the stories of constellations and finding them. So generally I only take a pair of binoculars and a map out with me. (Any forums related to this interest?)

    Jamison

There is a binocular forum that sees occasional posts. You might also find some interesting items in the Deep Space forum.

Welcome aboard, Jamison. Binoculars are the greatest tool to have around. I often go out with mine without the telescope just because they're so easy to view with. I think many people miss out on a lot by not taking advantage of low-power, wide-field views. You can see many deepsky objects with binoculars, too. There is a book (which I don't have, but need) called simply Binocular Astronomy. I forget the author, but I'm sure a Google search will show the way to it. Welcome back to the hobby, pal.

There is also a book called Binocular Highlights that was published by Sky and Telescope. Having not read it I cannot comment on the quality of the book.

Binocular highlights by sky and telescope is a great book. It helps you starhop through the sky to the object. I have had a lot of great finds with the help of that book.
