Cool. A fellow radio person.
I'm James...Radioman970 from south GA, USA. I work in radio, morning/noon DJ. Country in the mornings on one station and 70/80s rock at noon on another in the same building. 20+ years acting like I'm working at this.
Just bought a z10 w/ accessories that should arrive today. and guess what? No clouds so far! Woo hoo! Now, if I can only figure out how to stay up late and get up early every week.
Only other scope I have is a Tasco (brought by Santa
) that's pretty rickety now. But I in the 80s I first saw Venus, Saturn, Jupiter system, the moon close up...and about 8 years ago I stay up all night to find where Andromeda should be, although couldn't actually see it. All of those things I'll never forget.
I've actually been shopping for a better telescope since the late 80s but just never spent the money. Took getting old to get me going on this. I feel like a kid again.
I'm a wordy person...just warning everybody.

Greetings,
My name is Thad, or Prof. Szabo (but I'll reserve that for students in my classes). I've been an astronomy enthusiast since I was a kid, and now I'm lucky enough for it to be part of my profession. I teach astronomy and physics at a community college in the Los Angeles area. I also have a youtube channel that I haven't done much with lately, but the channel name is TheStarWatchingRock.
I have a 10" Coulter Optical Odyssey Dob and a pair of 25x100mm Zhumell binoculars for which I still need to get a proper tripod. I am going to start doing serious astrophotography (I'm not sure the afocal work I've done counts), and just got a Celestron Edge HD 9.25" scope for doing so. I'm still trying to decide on a camera, but am leaning toward the Atik 314e for starters.
Let me know if you have any questions, especially during the summer when I have a lot more time to answer them. :-)
Cheers, and clear skies!
