    Default England New Guy

    Hi Everybody,

I've been retired for a few years and have decided I need something more to spend my time on. Astronomy has always fascinated me and so I decided to start a new hobby. Currently I'm awaiting the arrival of a new Celestron Nexstar Evolution 9.25" scope. My one concern is that I will never see the stars, being that I live in the northern part of England. :-)

I've been reading several Astronomy books and visiting numerous web sites to learn more about the subject. This site, I'm sure, will be a very good resource and maybe a way to acquire some new friends with a similar interest. Anybody have any clues on how to get the Wife interested in Astronomy?

    Dan

    Hi, Dan.

    Welcome to the forum.

You might also want to check out The Sky Searchers, a.k.a. TSS, a new forum with many of the same members. AstronomyForums has some serious technical problems and a declining membership. TSS was formed in response to those issues to preserve the community that had been established here.

Hi Dan. It's always exciting to have a new member on board with us. And, as Kathy has stated, please check out the new TSS forum. Welcome to the forum Dan, and the best of wishes with that new Nexstar Evolution 9.25 telescope on it's way to you.

Hi Dan! Welcome to the forum and thanks for joining us! I will also 2nd the TSS recommendation.

As for getting your spouse interested...that can be difficult if there is no initial interest to build upon. My wife has little interest but will come out for the occasional planetary or lunar view (just a quick peek and done) or sit for a meteor shower (the Perseids mainly) if clear, or watch a Iridium satellite flare or the International Space Station (ISS) pass overhead.

Otherwise, she could care less She does enjoy some of the terrible astrophotos that I've captured.

Hello Dan! Welcome aboard! Getting spouse and/or kids involved is a tough one! It seems they either get it...and want their own scope...or don't. Sometimes it's a win if they tolerate/support your interest
