Question First question - Dobsonian mount for a Zhumell Z8

    Good day.

I am new to the forum, an not much experienced. I did buy a Zhumell Z8 Dobsonian telescope from Amazon, but they did NOT send the box with the base, so I am trying to purchase it separately (Amazon does not sell it).

The only base I have found on internet that is sold separately is for an Apertura 8". I understand that both brands are made by the same company, but does it mean that they can be used interchangeably? or will I need to purchase some extra items to make it fit?

    Thank you for any advise...

Hello and welcome, unless you actually paid for a telescope without a base send this one back as it is not complete.
A dobsonian always comes with a base.

Hi Juan. I agree with the above posters. If you paid for a complete unit, you should have received a complete unit. Contact the seller and try to resolve this issue, or send it back. Welcome to the forum Juan, and the best of wishes on getting this problem solved.

The Apertura base will most definitely work, but I do agree with the others. They OWE you a base or a refund.

    Thank you all!

I am not able, nor willing, to send the telescope back for several reasons: I had it shipped to Colombia, where I live , and the S&H charges would be about as much as the telescope. Besides, I wouldn’t take the risk of having Amazon send it incomplete again (there are some comments on Amazon of customers that only received the base: I was kind of lucky). Finally, Amazon already gave me a refund, so for them the case is closed.

I already found the base (the Apertura base, that is) on a different site, and it does look similar to the one that didn’t arrive. Should I buy it in the hope that it will fit my Zhumell?

The Zhumell and Apertura are the same telescope, just a different name.

Your first indication of something not being right was the comments you read. Avoid this retailer in the future!

Juan, sorry to see you are missing the base. It comes in a flat box measuring 59x69x14cm. The base is made of particle board so it's a heavy box. Both Zhumell and Apertura brands will fit your Z8. I know Highpoint Scientific and TelescopesPlus sell the Zhumell Z8 and Apertura AD8 prodcuts.
