Default Hi from Cloudy, Rainy Indiana

My name's Mark, I am 58 years old, and I am trying to get back into astronomy after a long absence.

I am a former member of the AAVSO, and in the past I did visual variable star observing with binoculars and a small telescope.
I also did SID monitoring for the Solar section. I am interested in observing and measuring the orbits of double stars as well.

I don't own anything big at the moment, and have never owned anything larger than an 8" SCT.

My remaining telescopes have been in mothballs for a while. I have a 5" Vixen Reflector on a Vixen Alt-Az mount, and a Vixen 101 Maksutov on a iOptron skymaster pro camera mount. I have an old set (15+ years) of Canon 15x50 image-stabilized binoculars, with which I did most of my variable star observing. I also have a 4" Stargazer Steve f/10 Dobsonian, my first scope, which I built from a kit in 1997. The base of that is a bit wobbly.

I like looking at the brighter Messier Objects- M8 is probably my favorite Summertime object.

Anyway, looking forward to learning from you all!

    Clear Skies,

    Mark

Hi Mark. It's great to have you join us on here. And that was a fine introduction from you too. Many of us have had to put the astronomy hobby on the "back burner" for years due to job, family, or relocation priorities. Welcome to the forum Mark, and the best of wishes on your re-entry into the great world of amateur astronomy.

Hello Mark. Welcome! Messier 8 is hard to see from my northly location, but I expect it is glorious from Indiana. I must have another go this summer!
