    Default Hello!

My name is Armen. I'm from Los Angeles, California. Never had a telescope. I have been all overt the internet searching for my first telescope. "Confused" would be an understatement. I'm hoping this forum can help me choose my first general telescope. My interests are planets, nebulas and galaxies.

    Thanks,
    Armen

    Hi Armen,

Welcome to the astronomy forum. What is a good telescope to start with? There are a lot of excellent beginner telescopes that cover a wide range of prices and capabilities. One thing that will really help is knowing what your budget is and some details about the conditions where you will actually setup and use the telescope. One telescope that is computerized to help you find stuff in the night sky (a real advantage in light polluted areas) us the Celestron NexStar 102 mm refractor. Get the book Backyard Astronomers Guide. It will help you learn the basics of astronomy as well as the different options available. Your local public library probably has one or can get a copy on interlibrary load.
