    Hi.
    Whereabouts in France?

We've been a couple of times to a place in the Charente that operates as an Astro holiday place.

Thanks to all for replies. I have posted a more specific request for advice on the refractors forum (perhaps I should have used the beginners forum?) .

This post is being moderated....does this always happen or after a certain number of posts can you just post directly?
    Thanks again
    Peter

    Hi
We are in the Lot et Garonne, about 30 minutes south of the Dordogne river. It is a lovely peaceful rural place with no light pollution and a bit warmer at night than Cumbria, UK, which we moved from 2 years ago.

If you would appreciate some hands on experience with a range of scopes to try out - and an expert on hand to share their expertise - you might be interested in booking a couple of nights at the Astrofarm I mentioned.

They've been there for a few years, and selected the area because it has low light pollution (maybe not quite as low as yours, but better than most), and a micro climate that gives more clear skies than average. They run courses at different levels throughout the year, so you could email them, saying what you're interested in and get an idea of when they might be running a course that would be appropriate.

[Statement of interest] - We know Sue who runs it and we've been out to stay 3 times (for general observing rather than a course).
