Red face Canon Rebel + Celestron 70mm

    Hello there!

I知 so glad I found this nice site to learn from Astronomy and telescopes. I知 a beginner at this subject, but I have a real interest in learning.

Since I知 a college student with a low budget, I was thinking in buying the Celestron 70mm Travel Scope as an starter telescope, what do you think? (Other option could be Celestron 70eq)

I also own a Canon Rebel t3i and would like to use it to take pictures of what I may see in the telescope. Any accesories recommendations? (Barlows, etc)

Lastly, what do you think I値l be able to see with a low-budget scope like those I mentiones before? I致e read it痴 really, really hard to see planets, but I知 sure there are so many other great things to see!

Hello and welcome to the forums
The 70mm travel scope is good for widefield views but not the best for planets, the 70mm EQ is good for planets but not widefield

    Welcome to the forum!!

For what it is, the 70 Travel scope is not bad. It would be worth it to add a little more to it and get an ST80. What you will be able to accomplish by attaching your DSLR will greatly depend on the mount you get for the scope. You will need a sturdy tracking EQ mount, and unfortunately you can't do much with these light weight low end mounts without a LOT of work.

The ST80 will be significantly superior on the planets than the 70 Travel scope, both will have nice wide field views. The ST80 will be superior to image through, but again, the mount is the biggest concern there.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I agree with Ozman that if you can stretch the budget a little, the ST80 would be superior.

    Cheers

Hi Thalimedina. It's great to have you join us on here. And, I agree with Ozman and Bob, that the ST80 is quite worth saving up for, with the additional performance that it will give you in return. Welcome to the forum Thalimedina, and the best of wishes on your astronomy and astrophotography adventures.
