Welcome aboard, Justin! I sit just about 200 miles north of you. It's always good to see more Texans on here. I bet you'll love that AR152. I've had a white tube 127ED for a couple of years now and have really enjoyed it.

    Clear skies.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! The scope should be here tomorrow, but the mount isn't coming until Wednesday. I'm getting excited! Not sure when the other accessories are going to get here, but I should be able to get started with out them.

To the other Texans, howdy y'all! Although in the interest of full disclosure I have to admit that I am not a native Texan. But I got here as soon as I could! I grew up in upstate New York. NOT NEW YORK CITY!

Congrats on the new scope and mount. Be ready to sit on the ground when viewing things that are above about 75 degrees. I had a ES 127 carbon fiber APO that I used on an AVX I used to own so I know what I'm talking about. I eventually fabricated a 14" tower that raised the mount. Yes, you can extend the legs but that adds some unsteadiness to the mount and I would expect even more with the 152. Even with my CGE PRO which is much taller than the AVX, when using my 152 refractor (see sig) I have to sit on the ground sometimes when viewing something overhead. Not trying to discourage you though, you gotta do what you gotta do.
It's the same up here in Magnolia. Houston just keeps getting bigger.

I've heard about "ground observing". I'll do what I have to do. I was actually already thinking of a making a tower. Any chance you could post a pic of yours?

The AR152 is indeed a monster. That's one with a Moonlite 2.5" focuser in my avatar. I've used mine for a couple of public outreach events on my AVX. It will certainly draw a crowd.

The 152 is a surprising performer and is much more fun than say a 150mm Newt. I feed mine ES 82o eyepieces with just a touch of gravy.

Looking forward to your first light and future experiences.

I have been looking at those ES eyepieces. That's probably what I will get eventually. For now I have a selection of much cheaper ones to play with.

Did you have any problems with the original focuser on your scope? I've heard that they can be finicky.

Awesome! Keep in mind these 10 Steps for New Gear Delivery:

    1. Order it.
    2. Wait several long and agonizing and SLOW days until delivery date.
    3. On delivery day, click refresh over and over again on the tracking website until you see a large truck arrive at your residence.
    4. Rush outside and feverishly assist the driver with unloading your new box(es).
    5. Once inside, stare lovingly at the boxes. Make sure the house is just right, pour yourself a beverage of your choice, and reverently and savoringly open the boxes.
    6. Assemble scope/mount.
    7. Read the instructions.
    8. Re-assemble scope/mount.
    9. For the next 11 days, shake your fist at the sky and cuss vehemently at the cloud cover.
    10. Post your first light report.

Let us know how you fare with these steps.

BEAUTIFUL country in upstate New York! It's been about five years since I was up that way, but I loved it.

ALSO: I hear scratchy things about ES focusers too, but I've been satisfied with the one on my 127.
