I googled Mt. Pinos star party and came up with this:

    Dark Sky Star Parties

It looks like LAAS is active there, not sure how frequently the star parties are held. As I mentioned, I camped there before and it was quite dark, but I only had a pair of binoculars with me. Good luck finding a spot. If you contact LAAS they probably can provide you with a lot more information.

    Hi Marco!
Second Saturday of every month, we meet at Seal Beach Star Party, the only greatest informal star party around here.
See the website for Bogart's cafe for the next date, I won't be there until September, but once there you will meet a bunch of seriously addicted amateur astronomers who can give you all the info you need, and more

    Welcome to the Forum!!!

I live in the Valley but don't really travel much with my rig. I don't really do Visual so I have a lot to pack up, set up, and then tear down... Once the days get longer I would be interested in going to a dark spot so that I have more time to set up.

Los Angeles is a hotbed of amateur astronomy. There are many clubs. The Los Angeles Astronomical Society, the Riverside Astronomical Society and the Orange County Astronomers all have highly developed observing sites in remote dark areas.
