I live away from the city and light pollution is not a problem. I have a large field I can go out in to do my viewing. I actually have had other scopes and still have some. but I have a hard time learning how to set them up. Manuals are not that good to me I learn much better from someone explaining it to me. That is why I sought out this forum. I need to talk with people to learn. I do not plan on carting my scope any where but out in my field. That is why I am leaning to a big scope, I really like what I know about the Celestron 11" goto scope. I do have a Meade Telestart ds-114 but have had a hard time getting it aligned so I can use it. I have a great spotting scope that I would consider my grab and go if I ever decide to do that. Your information is very helpful it made me look at what I want and why. I am a little fearful of spending a bit of money on a good scope if I won't be able to figure it out enough to enjoy it. being out from the cities were I can look at the sky with my naked eyes and see so much, I just want more, I want to see what is out there. I remember my first scope was a 70mm Meade refractor. It was with that scope that I was able to see Saturn and its rings for the first time. That is it, I just want to look at the sky. Thanks again so much for your posts.
I am not sure who you directed that comment to but if it was me, glad it helped.

Don't know what kind of problems you had with the DS-114. Is this the scope you are talking about?

I have a Meade ETX 80 goto and find it pretty easy to set-up. That one seems to have a different controller so I can't comment on it. However if it is the GoTo that you are having problems with then you should tell us that. What is the problem? I know I can use the ETX 80 manually as well as with the GoTo, by releasing the clutches. Don't know about that one.

As your problem statement is very vague it is hard to address and hard to avoid in a recommendation. I am going to assume you are having problems with getting the GoTo to work accurately for you.

Dobsonians are probably the simplest of scopes to use. I have the Orion XT8i Intelliscope. I gave you the link earlier. Very easy to set up and use with the intelliscope guidance or use it manually. Some feedback would be helpful.

Celestron, Meade and others take the same OTA and put it on a variety of mounts. Some are got to and some are not. Celestron has a variety of goto mounts. So if there is something you particularly like about one or dislike about another it would help a lot of you could be more specific so we can help you.

I pointed you to the the Celestron 8SE with star sense auto align which is going to be about the easiest goto set-up you are going to find. Turn it on, it figures out its alignment itself and asks you what you want to see. I don't know how anyone can make it any easier than that.

Do you like or dislike that? Not a large enough OTA? Something about this scope that bothers you? Help us help you.

You like the Celestron 11". Are you talking about this 11" telescope?
    http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop...ized-telescope

Wonderful scope but you will have to align it. Pretty easy, as are most goto alignments. Will you be able to do it? If you don't get the alignment right it won't hit the targets. This one does not autoalign.

    We need more information.

The most automatic scopes in the celestron line, as I understand it, are the

Yes, thank you. My DS-114 is an AT I am sure its a much older model. It has not been used for some time. I just took it out and I am re familiarizing myself with it. I have run through a fake setup in my living room to go through the steps and see what I was missing. It seemed to go well. Next step take it outside and do it again. I will let you know how it goes. I was a bit vague, cause I didn't remember what the issues were, I just remember having some trouble with it so I put it away. Well its back out and seems to be working fine. Now for the field test. I don't think the Scope is the biggest problem I think I am just to ignorant to understand some of this stuff. The 8SE you included the link for is one I have been looking at. I think you made some really good points. This may be the way I should go. I will read up on it more. And the link you have for the 11" Celestron telescope is that one I have been considering. Both seem to be good scopes. And now you have pointed out some differences. Thanks again for the help hopefully I can give more detailed information once I get back out in the field.
