    Default Hello from Kissimmee, FL

Hello everyone. My 1st post and of course I'm a newbie to astronomy. I have been debating for a while if I should get me a decent beginner telescope. I have been interested in the stars and planets since I was little but I was never able to afford a telescope. When i was able to afford one I couldn't see much because of the city brightness. I finally move far from the city and I noticed at night the sky is really dark and I started to see stars like never before. I was not sure if I will like the hobby full time so I wanted to start slow. I purchased a pair binocular first and used them almost every night for about 30 mins looking at the moon. I found an used Orion Starmax 102mm with EQ mount in excellent condition. I'm looking forward to enjoy watching the skies and learn about this new hobby!

Hello jayta98 and welcome to the forum! Glad you have joined us! You've done a good thing with getting binoculars first. You can really enjoy and learn the night sky this way. It's a good affordable route to take to see if you'll really get into this hobby.

You've come to the right place to learn more about scopes, binoculars, and observing the night sky. So sit back, relax, do some reading, ask some questions, and enjoy the ride!

Hello Jay and welcome to the forum. As mentioned by Bryan, starting out with binoculars is a good thing. Download you a copy of a program called Stellarium, its free, and use it to set up your current location, you'll be able to see what is in the sky for the night and go out and observe!!! Good luck, clear skies and have fun.

Welcome to the forum jayta98. What sort of binoculars have you got? My reason for asking is that if they are a decent size then you should just use them for while to see if astronomy is your thing. Using stellarium you can find many other interesting things in the sky and you will find some more fascinating than others.
My 2 cents is that once you feel like you want to move up you'll want a better or at least different scope than the one you mentioned. Meanwhile the binos will keep you going.
