Default Greetings from Palm Harbor Florida, USA

    Hello All,

My name is Dave L., I am from Palm Harbor Florida, and I just joined this forum.

    My experience with astronomy includes:
    • Observational astonomy
    • Astrophotography (emulsion and getting chewed by mosquitoes )
    • Lunar Grazing Occultations
    • Asteroid occultation (once, with no luck, but it was a great story)
    • Past member of local astronomy club (SPAC)

I have been out of astronomy for many years but am getting back into it as my wife purchased an inexpensive 10" F5 dob (Zhumell Z10). In the past I have owned an 8" schmidt-cassegrain (C8) as well as a 10" F5 (full thickness). I have to admit that so far it looks like the Z 10 provides plenty of bang for the buck; hopefully first light will be tonight

I enjoy good old fashioned star hopping from a nice set of star charts (Sky Atlas 2000.0 by Tirion, et al) and astrophotography provided me the wonderful experience of knowing what it's like to get to know a particular star field like the back of ones hand..

My experience in astrophotography was provided to me by a very generous good friend who shared with me his knowledge and expertise as well as the use of his equipment. He was a brilliant emulsion photographer and excels today as an excellent astronomical imaging hobbyist.

I am looking forward to getting involved with astronomy again and seeing some of you in the forums!

    All the Best,

    Dave Lavallee

Hi Dave and Welcome to the Forum! I'm sure you will enjoy the new Z10. I have one and so far have been loving it. I bought it last year after many years out of the hobby, and it's been a blast. Happy Holidays!

    Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum...and congrats on your new scope..you should get a lot of great views with a 10" Dob... a good number of us on the forum were away from the hobby for a number if years and then returned.. This forum is a great place to learn and re-learn in all areas of Astronomy... Be sure and let us know how some of your observing sessions go... it's always neat to hear how others are doing and what they are out observing..

    Clear Skies,

    Les
