    Default Celestron Astromaster 130EQ

    Hi

I am a relative newbe to astronomy and a small fish in this forum.
I have recently purchased the above telescope. Unfortunately I believe this requires collimation and have purchased Seben Laser Collimator.
On my old Jessop telescope the centre of the mirror was marked with a dot, the new celestron does not appear to have one. Does this mean I have to start stripping down a new scope to mark it up? Surely not???

    Many Thanks

    Pompeyoz

Welcome from West Yorkshire. Yes it's an annoying fact, I had 200P and had to strip that down to mark the centre. Actually it's not all that big a job, just remember to make a mark on the base and tube to ensure correct alignment on re assembly.

    ARGH
Thank you for that, could you advise on the best method of marking the centre without causing any damage to the mirror.

Had to do that to my AM 114EQ and like TILLIBOBS says it's no big deal. But you won't think that until you are done with the job.

Hello Pompeyoz. Nice to have you with us. Congratulations on the new 130EQ telescope. You can learn how to do a center dot with the handy link below by Gary Seronik of Sky & Telescope magazine at:

I hope this helps you out. Welcome to the forum, and best wishes on your collimation process.
