Hello and welcome to the forum. Don't worry about the adds, they will disapear in no time. I have to agree with Aaron in regards to the benefits of the TAL. Just having a motorized scope vs. not was a huge game changer, for me anyway.

I'm 52 and I carry my LX200 (very heavy machine) in and out everytime I use it. You can tell your better half that it will also keep you in shape !!

I'be got the TAL 150P at £170. A little more than the £150 I expected but I still feel it is an excellent buy. I hope I've posted the images correctly. I'm hoping to pick up this baby at the weekend :-)

Depending on how much you want to spend, like me, my first telescope was a hobby store special and I was nothing but frustrated with it the whole time, cheap mount, cheap eye pieces. You can spend around $400.00 and get good equipment and your interest in the hobby will go from there, later you'll have the want to invest in a better scope to full fill your astronomical desires.....Welcome to the forum

Congrats on the new scope, I hope you enjoy it and that you will let us know how you get on. I realise that it's too late, but there's one on e.bay ending in about 17 hours time.

Thanks @MadMaxwellSmart. To be honest I'd been looking for ages & pondering & procrastinating. It was annoying because I wanted a 150cm reflector but couldn't find one within budget & was going to settle on a (probably secondhand) Skywatcher Explorer 130P - the 150 Skywatcher model was considerably more & I wasn't sure whether I would "take" to a Dobsonian setup despite it being the cheapest type.
So I consider myself lucky to have fallen on the TAL 150P especially given that it appears to be an exceptionally good piece of kit.

Will let you know what it's like when I get to pick it up

Thanks for the heads-up @Tillybobs. Did not find any TALs on eBay because I searched specifically for the 150P.

Not sure how the TAL1 compares but seems to be a similar spec. Looking at the pics on ebay it does not seem to be in as good a condition as mine & is at the other end of the UK so I'd p&p costs to be an absolute fortune.

I'm watching it out of interest to see if I paid a reasonable price on mine :-)

I'm so glad the ads have disappeared on this forum. They were driving me nuts !!

Show your wife the moon through your new scope.
If she reacts like my wife did when she first saw earths satellite, you will be a happy man.

Happy night views from Stallion in Spain.
