    Hello Dactyl, and welcome also from the cloudy Bavaria.

    Your lousy U.K. weather, but the Outer Hebrides have no light pollution, and they offer very clear skies between the clouds and rain showers. What about to move there.

    Wishing you a very good start into the astronomy,

    Hi AbbN,
    Thanks for the advice! I have a Stlelarium programme on my desktop, I think it's great. It's really interesting to see what the sky would look like if my back garden wasn't covered in cloud I'll check out the one you linked, I might have to swap if it's better that the one I'm using at the moment.

    Thank you, J.Gardavsky. Outer Hebrides, here I come!

    Are you really a blue haired Brad Pitt lookalike, Sada? It's a shame you missed the part where I said I don't really like Brad Pitt, I much prefer Professor Brian Cox!! If you're a Brain Cox lookalike (regardless of your hair colour) I'm all yours!!

    [QUOTE=Dactyl;1057637829]Thanks Z,
    I'll keep an eye on the Surplus Shed site, it looks like there's some pretty cool stuff on there...I won't be able to say no to a good discount either! I'd love to build a telescope (my hands on skills aren't too bad, I started a thread yesterday about building an orrery) if building my own telescope could be a good way to save money too, then I'm totally up for it! Please do post the thread

    Hello again Dactyl!
    The site I referred to was the Cloudy Nights forum about that telescope build and I think the reason you couldn't see any pictures last time, is because you have to be a signed in member. I have a username and password for both this forum and Cloudy Nights and to make it easy for me, I just use the same usernames etc.
    Here is that thread:
    Telescope Reviews: D=103mm F=1575mm Jaegers Homemade Refractor update

    In regards to Surplus Shed, some good advice for them is, get signed up with a username and password and make sure you give them your email address. They will email you periodically and some times the email will be about a whatever percent discount sale they are having. Usually the sale lasts for 3 days and I've seen as much as 49% off. They send you a code with the email and you enter it in this little box they have on their site when you pay and it deducts the amount automatically. The last sale a couple of days ago was 31% off of everything, which is what it was almost a year ago when I bought my Jaegers objective lens for the scope I'm building for my son. A good way might be to put £ aside, and wait, and hopefully not wait, and wait, and...!
    Anyway, I 'm convinced that they know about my lack of restraint when they put these sales on (probably snickering) because I succumb to "buy stuff desire" - Everytime.
