    Default returning to astronomy

    Hi all,

I'm jon, i am returning to the world of astromony. I am basically a novice i have looked and owned a few scopes in the past. i am currently looking to purchase a scope so I can get back into seeing the sky at night. I am looking at a 8" dob. So for starters if you care to give advice I am looking at either the Orion xt 8" Dob or the Zhumell 8" dob. On an off shoot maybe even a etx 90 due to goto. i know the basics of the sky so the goto is not really needed....

    Thanks in advance,

    Jon

    Welcome to the forum!

An 8" Dob is a great choice for a first scope.

Welcome to the forum Jon. If GOTO is not necessary, then definetely go with the DOB. You will have folks on both camps with the XT8 and the Zhumell 8" and folks will chime in with a few other 8" brands. You will be very happy with the 8" no matter what brand.

Welcome! Yea if you dont need goto and just getting back into it I would go with the Dob. Orion or Zhumell are going to be nice..just matters on which one you can get a better deal on at the time.

I have an Orion 8" Newtonian. I'm pretty happy with the scope. However, I use it a lot and move it around. Parts of it are falling apart after a year of heavy use, yet nothing serious that can't be fixed. I would get some extra thumb screws for the eyepieces and other accessories. These break all the time and I replace them with screws from my local hardware store. Overall, it's a great scope for observing.

Welcome to the forum. Assuming you LP is not to bad either DOB would be great. If LP is a problem you c0uld look at the XT8I or even the XT8G.

    Welcome aboard Jon
I'm returning to the hobby as well.
Also considering the XT8 but BigJacks comment about light pollution has me thinking.
