    Default hi from japan!

United Statian living in Japan. Just got my first telescope, a Celestron 8 SE, a few days ago. Unfortunately it's been really hazy and / or cloudy pretty much every day since I got it. Except tonight, took it out and just kind of fiddled with it and pointed at whatever bring object I could see with my naked eye. After focusing it down, most stars just looked like a spec. Not sure if it's due to bad seeing conditions (light pollution is some what bad here in Yokohama) or what but I have a hard time belieiving I'll be able to see galaxies (someone tell me I'm wrong please!). Haven't given up yet though as I am actually more interested in looking at the planets (saturn's rings in particular!)

That's it for now, I guess I'll go ask questions in the newbie area .

Welcome to the forum. Stars will always look like stars, just pin points if the scope is set up correctly. They ae too far away and "small" to magnify. You should b3e able to seen at least the brighter galaxies and of course nebulas and clusters both open and globular. The LP might cause problems with the dimmer objects.
