Welcome!
Hi everyone,
I'm based in the Netherlands (The Hague area) - not really the best place to own a telescope (I guess Beijing might be worse but that's about all!) - and it's been cloudy ever since I got it, but I always wanted one and am finally lucky enough to own something - a NexStar 130SLT which might not be the best thing since sliced bread but is significantly better than the nothing I had before
Whilst I've never owned my own telescope, I have been fascinated by space my whole live - my father worked for ESA for 30 years (initially in spacecraft thermal control and then in life support) and he instilled a deep interest in the skies which has never waned.
I eventually want to get into a bit of astrophotograpy (I realise this isn't the telescope for that but I wanted to start somewhere) if the bug really bites. In the meantime I'm happy looking at the planets and learning a bit more about the sky.
Anyway, I've already looked around the forums quite a bit and found a lot of useful and interesting knowledge - and I'm sure I'll have questions to ask as I go along.
Cheers
John
