Default Hello from a total newb!

Hi everyone, I'm Jason from AZ. Looking to do some recreational stargazing. Originally I wanted to do some astrophotography, but after a bit of research into the difficulty and financial investment (mounts, drives, cameras, etc) I decided maybe it's best if I just get a decent telescope and learn the basics of using it before I get into the advanced stuff, lol. I've seen on more than one site that a 8" dobsonian is a good starting point for an amateur such as myself so I'm looking into those. Any advice or suggestions would be awesome! Thank you for your input, looking forward to what lies above in the sky!

    Jason

No advice as you seem to have figured out what you need already.... a 8 inch Dob is an excellent scope to own and use..and not only for beginners...

My only suggestion would be to consider spending a little more money and getting a Dob like the "i" model Orions...which the COL so that you can find stuff in minutes instead of hunting 3/4 of the night for everything except the moon...

Welcome aboard... and BTW I'm been in this hobby for over 50 years...I have no desire to get into AP...not because of the expense...but because of the work ..I can use the web to see pretty pictures...lol

    Bob G
CPC1100 housed in a slotted domed observatory (Exploradome) 4 and 5 inch refractors for use from the lawn, a 8" Sct (NS 8i) for star parties...
I Hate the winter so I use heated Motorcycle clothing to stay warm while observing in winter
Retired, also have 2 other hobbies
    1. tinker with older Corvettes (6 in garage)
    2. make a heck of a lot of sawdust in my wood shop.
