I am looking forward to seeing the Orion nebula! I had quite an excellent viewing night last night. I was looking at the clusters in Sagittarius and did manage to see a nebula. It looked like a grey smudge but I saw it still not sure which one it was as I am still in learning mode. Overall it was an excellent night

Welcome to the forum! I started myself in this about 8 months ago and just yesterday bought my 7th telescope. Believe me, with time and like member neal said, "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE". I can't stress that enough. And don't get discourage by frustration( and believe, it will come). Just get out there every chance yo get and use the app to help you aim that scope. By the time Orion's Nebula(M42) comes on you will be amazed even with a smal size scope and without a filter. Be aware, you will not see the Nebulas in full color thru the telescope. You will see faint clouds(like smoke), but the beauty will be there nonetheless.
