hi and welcome to the forums.
clear skies,
Hiya Folks...
Back in my young days, growing up in Ireland, I was an avid enthusiast, and plenty of nights were spent at the business end of a mighty 2 inch refractor with my friend. Couldn't wait to watch the Sky at Night, and every birthday and Christmas was filled with demands for books (which I got!) and a 3" refractor (which I never got, alas.) As time went by, and I got older though, my attentions were swayed by other things a teenager was drawn to... football, women, and beer!
Fast forward to now, and the bug has bitten me again, courtesy of a visit to Hawaii. My wife wanted sun and sand, but I immediately gravitated towards Mauna Kea and the observatories. A tour of a few of the big ones was followed by a star party at the visitor's centre, where a lot of my old memories came flooding back (and I was on the receiving end of a dressing down from one of the lads for not staying with the hobby!) But one look through his 14" Dobsonian at the rings of Saturn...
...and now here I am. Been eyeing telescopes, so will be harassing people for advice on that, as well as begging folks to bear with my horrifically rusty knowledge (not that there's much of it.)
So looking forward to getting back into it!

Hello and Welcome. I think your pretty smart to save a few "wonders" for the "later years". Plus, you probably have a few more "bucks" to throw at it now! Enjoy the forums.
NexStar 5SE, Omni 2X Barlow, 9MM, 25mm, 8-24 variable, Filter set+Moon. and the GPS for the camp-outs alongside the river. StarShoot imaging camera IV.
Hah! My wife would beg to differ. I mentioned to her the other night that I was looking at telescopes, and she gave me the "don't you even THINK about it" look. I have a bit of a habit of coming up with expensive hobbies - homebrewing, mountain biking, and built an arcade cabinet last year. My budget for my first (well, second!) scope is about 500 of those bucks that I have tucked away, anything more and she'd damage me in ways I'd rather not think about.
Currently pondering either the Celestron XLT 150 or an Orion 8" Dob. Obviously, I'd prefer the bigger one, but my back garden is surrounded by trees, and there's a fair whack of light pollution around here, so whatever I get will need to be fairly portable, as well as easy to store. (Been warned away from the Meade ETX-90, which was the first one I'd looked at...)
