    Default Just George

Hi, I'm George, new to astronomy along with my wife (who is the impetus toward taking action in this direction).

She has been interested in the night sky for years, but we never didd anything about it except to go out at night and look up. One time, we drove 50 miles from anywhere just to see the Leonid meteor shower.

This past Christmas (2011), I decided to change the situation--I bought her a Celestron Nexstar 130 SLT with the Eyepiece and Filter Kit.

She was amazed and could hardly wait to set it up. Unfortunately, clear skies were only a wish yet to be before my wife had to go to China for two weeks. For most of January, we had mostly cloudy weather and not too many clear days so far in February.

We did get to go out one night and view the Moon and caught a glimpse of Jupiter. Every other clear night we have been to busy to get out there.

At any rate, I did not waste my time. I bought a USB to serial cable and spent quite a while trying to get it to work. Finally I did and was able to control the scope with the computer.

I also purchased the Celestron Power pack after I figured How much batteries were going to cost over the up coming years.

I've been having some trouble aligning the scope and am still trying to resolve the problem. After reading a number of posts, I think I am going to have to check the alignment between the scope and the finder scope.

    Well, enough for now.
