Default New to Astronomy and Telescoping

    Hello All,

My name is Chris and I live in the lovely Florida Panhandle. I know nothing of Star Watching and am a complete novice when it comes to Astronomy. My father passed recently and left me a CPC 925 GPS (XLT) with a bunch of eyepieces and stuff. He was really into checking out all of the wonders of space and I know he liked to buy really good equipment to do it. I know nothing of his telescope other than he said it was worth something and to sell it if I wanted. I would rather learn how to use it to show my kids a small part of what made their grandpa happy as they are really young and likely won't really remember him. I will mostly be using this forum as a how-to as I am a complete novice. I will lean heavily on the Search tab, but will likely also ask a bunch of questions also. What brought me here was the specific areas you have for each telescope brand and the broad knowledge base demonstrated by several of the forum members. I look forward to learning more about this fascinating hobby and use it to bond/entertain my kids before they outgrow me.

    Chris

    Welcome, Chris!

It always inspires me when I hear about parents wanting to share their interests with their kids. Way to go! Even better that you will be learning along with them. What a nice tribute to your father!
