    SUCCESS! My weather balloon launch took place on the weekend and took the camera's up to well over 100,000 feet....it was more like 118,000 feet!!!!

    Not only that, it has an epic story behind it and also some breath taking pictures and videos to come.

    great blog and even better project.

    i had some questions though, first what is the ballons being filled with to get them up to 100,000 ft
    2nd... what did you make the ballons out of to be able to stand natures elemets [wind, debre, etc]

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your comment.
    The balloon is filled with helium and that expands as it rises due to the pressure in the atmosphere. It's roughly 5 feet wide on release and around 22 feet when it bursts!!

    The balloons are specially designed to withstand the elements as they are often used to predict weather patterns at high altitudes. Here is some more information about them:
