    Default New scope finally arrived

Well it"s been a long 2 weeks but my Celestron Omni XLT 127 got here today. This is an upgrade to a Bushnell Voyager 70 that I was given about 2 months ago by my employer in recognition of 25 years of service. The Bushnell hooked me good.

Anyway, thanks to the weather (according to UPS) the OTA arrived today after an 11 day wait, even though the CG-4 mount got here in 3 days.

During the 7 day wait for the OTA I practiced and read about the mount and scope so it only took about 10 minutes until I was "seeing". Wow, I really mean WOW and tonight is a really bad night for anything but the moon. Hope I get some sleep tonight, right now I'm waiting on Saturn to get a little higher.

This is really great stuff. So far I've been to Jupiter, M42, M31 and the Pleiades. And of course the moon (definitely need a filter, that thing is bright tonight).

Sorry to go on so much, but this is amazing. Wish I would have bought one of these 20 years ago.

Saturn was definitely worth the wait. I only have a 26mm EP right now so only looking at x48, but it is really sweet. I'm pretty sure I can see Titan. This is definitly going to cut into my sleep time.

Good to hear! Have a great time with your new scope!

As someone about to get an Omni myself (a refractor), may I ask how you like the CG-4 mount?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
I found this mount to be really good with my XLT 127.

That was actually a big factor in my picking that OTA for my first "good one". I was reading a lot of stuff on here and other places about the importance of a sturdy mount. This mount got a mix of good and bad reviews mainly with respect to the size of the OTA. The 127 only weighs a bit over 6 lbs with accessories and that tended to make the good review side. With the big refractors and the reflector most didn't think it would do very stable.

I only have a "toy" Bushnell alt/az to compare it too (that thing wiggles like crazy). For me this was like going from a Mini Cooper to an Audi.

As far as learning to operate a GEM since I had the mount for 11 day before the OTA go here, I had time to study and practice using it. Several people commented on the weird guy in the yard looking at the night sky with a mount and no scope. Hey that just shortened the time to "seeing" when the scope got here.

    Good luck with yours.
