    Default Hello All

Hi everyone, my name is Mike. 15 - 20 years ago I looked through a "real" telescope at some event in middle school and I dont think I looked through another one since. I remember seeing a group of stars bunched together and thought it was amazing. For the past few years I have wanted a scope but never picked one up. Finally the other day I picked up an Orion XT8 with a 2x barlow, I hope i did my research right.

Anyway thats me, i look forward to getting to know you all here.

    Hello Mike,

I got my brother an Orion XT8 with the 2x barlow also. He should be getting it Dec 28, so I'm pretty excited about that.

I plan on getting myself one after the holidays as well.

Not knowing much about scopes (), I almost got him a GoTo, then almost got him an XT6i. After some more research, and knowing he's a smart guy who likes to use Stellarium, i decided on the XT8.

It was this forum that led me to that decision. Enjoy your new scope, and hope you post some lessons learned with it, cause I'll be telling my bro about this forum when I call him for xmas today.

Thats cool you got your brother an XT8. I almost got the I as well but figured i would spend the cash on a larger scope. I have used it a couple times and wish I got the I now cause its so hard finding stuff. Im hoping it gets easier as i get some expirence with the scope.

I saw a nebula in Orion which was pretty cool....but nothing else to note...I tried hard to find Andromeda but had no luck. I live in a rural area but lots of xmas lights around where making it hard to see the sky.

Welcome, I am a new owner of an 8" dob as well. Jupiter and Saturn are great fun with your scope and are easy to find, venus is also pretty easy to find right now. Also Pleiades is very visible and a really fun view.

Have you download Stellarium or some other program? They have been very helpful to a newbie like me.

    Congrats on the new scope.
