    They only appear to be equal because the sun at that point is directly over the equator.
    Actually all days are a similar length - 24 hours - part of it day and part of it night. Because the sun is over the equator, the Earth is not inclined to the orbital plane giving a day of equal measures of light and dark( but only over the equator - the poles are at that point in a balance of continuous half light)
