    Default Nikon 5000 and astrophotography

    Hi
I'm a very happy owner of a Nikon D5000 which is an outstanding, lightweight camera that I've used extensively for non-astro photo. I'm purchasing a Celestron 6SE AZ/ALT telescope and would like to try my hand at planetary and easy DSOs photography. I've also purchased 2.5X Powermate to give me some magnification with the D5000 strapped to my 6SE. At the time I purchased the D5000, I was unaware that Canon dominanted the DSLR astro world (and software) or I might have gone the Canon route. But I'm so pleased with the performance of my Nik5000 that I'm enthusiastic to see if it can be used effectively for astrophotography. I'm aware that my AZ/ALT mount is problematic, but I'm severely limited by the weight of the telescope and tripod due to a back and age.
So first question.... What is the best current software for capture and processing? And, oh, I have to throw in another oddity and limitation - I much prefer using a Mac laptop.

    Doug

    Hi Doug!

    welcome to the forums

I think you went well with the Nikon don't worry! It depends on your price point and want you are using (Nikon for example).

There are a few paid programs, and many free ones. Do you have any Nikon control software?
