Default Hi... My Name Is Ken, And I am am optics addict...

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself...

My first scope was a Meade 4" 2045 Tabletop model with a clock drive...
I was addicted from the moment I purchased that telescope...

I'm currently trying to restore a Meade DSX-2102MAK to completely original specs, I am missing one of the screws for the optical finder scope mount, that's it and my new scope is complete again...

I am also putting together an interesting combination of components using another DSX-2102 OTA and an iOptron "Cube" GPS mount...

About me, I am disabled, I am a Marine Corps Vet, I've been a computer network engineer and programmer for nearly thirty years(that's correct, I started the same year Bill Gates did) My first computer was a Timex-Sinclair with 8k of RAM, I wrote programs that could run in that 8K... Wow have times changed....

My school background is actually mechanical engineering and accounting, I made the leap from accounting to computers about twenty eight years ago, never looked back...

I also build and fly R/C helicopters, do hobby machining... I had a complete Sherline CNC setup but sold it a couple years ago, I still have my miniature manual lathe and milling machine... I make parts for my helicopters etc...

I am now getting back into astronomy due to the integration of our computers with these newer Go-To scopes and the improved quality of electronic imaging technology....

Thanks for taking the time to read... Ken

    Hi Ken
It sounds like we've got a lot of the same interests. I've got the Sherline manual shop setup too, fly RC helis (TRex450, MX400, and smaller), studied ME in school, wrote some programs (and still do when I can't avoid it) etc.
No accounting for me, though...I can't even balance a checkbook. Calculus and vector math I understand, double-entry bookkeeping not so much.
Welcome to the forum, let's hear more about your efforts with the restorations !

Welcome to the forum. They are still writing programs that would run in 8k, it is just that like junk that expands to exceed the storage room, programs expand to exceed available memory, besides some programmers get paid by the line of code???

Hi, Welcome to the astronomy forum. You and I have something in common. My first telescope also was a Meade 2045LX3 table top. I still have it and it is my most used telescope. It sits on my desk, perfect for times when I only have a few minutes. Good luck on your restoration of the DSX-2102MAK. I often put my 2045LX3 OTA on a Meade DS2000 mount. Works great.
