Default Toos featured on this this website

Some time ago I gave up trying to figure out how to get all the tools on this website working all the time.

Most of the time they're inconsistent, sometimes working, sometimes not. For instance to see all the posts in a thread I nearly always have to choose the Linear display option. The Thank You and Like tools seldom work and when they do, they do so less consistently as well.

A short while ago I think that it was MS-SALLY who reported similar frustration and an unhappy experience with the Like tool but received few offers of assistance and no resolution available.

I have since discovered the following quite by accident, coincidence and observation. If you're using the Threaded display mode (because you're lucky enough that it works for you all the time) but the Like tool does not, you can try the following on an incident by incident basis.

Simply switch over to the Linear display mode in which the Like tool may or may not function for you, click on the Like tool button and if it works (Yeah!) then switch back to the preferred Threaded display mode.

I had less trouble programming my infernal VHS Video Cassette Recording machine all those many years ago.

Sorry to hear of your dilema Kipper-feet, almost all of my features and 'toos' seem to work just fine. The exception is the notifications 'toos'. Perhaps a few cloudy nights will help you resolve your issues. Best of luck mate!

    Cheers

Interesting to see your Ten-Twenty there (slang used on CB radios).

I'm an older Durb's fellow myself having been born in Chingola, Zambia, raised and schooled in Amanzimtoti, tertiary studies at University of Natal Durban (UND, Howard College), transferred to Witbank in the Transvaal on an extended engineering contract with ESKOM to build coal-fired power-stations, my children born in Kempton Park and finally emigrated to Canada in 1995.

Spent 6-1/2 sun-filled years studying over a 9 year period to get through a 4-year civil engineering program in Durban. Clearly my social life was in serious conflict with my studies all those many years ago. It was not uncommon for us mature students to return to afternoon classes or tutorials after lunch, with sea-sand up both legs. The SURF was always UP in Durb's.

But then together with all that I was also compelled to play soldier for three months a year for 14 years. That kinda screwed most everything up as well.

Nice to make your acquaintance here on AF and perhaps our lines of sight will cross while looking up.

With regard to fixing my issues on this website, no ways, I've given up on that and merely hoped to pass that tip onto someone else. OMG, the admin and moderators on this site are so very quick...my thread was relocated here in less than a New York second.

What a small world we live in! I have been hoping to meet other Durban folk here and now that I do you are on the other end of the world. I have a lot of family that live in Kempton park. And one cousin in Canada(no interest in astronomy).
I live out in Woodlands, don't know if you will still remember the subburb.
Thanks for the PM and with a bit of time and patience I am sure your issues here on the forum will be resolved.(At least I hope so).

    Take care

    Clinton.

    FYI:

The problem has been reported to the senior programmer and will be reviewed.

    Thanks for reporting it.
