Default just picked up an ETX-60AT

    Hi,
When I initialise the handcontrol, the motors do not make any noise, but once I do an alighnment, there is some noise. So it is the scope tracking. I thought that I had problems when I first got my Skywatcher Explorer 130P goto, the ETX-60AT should be easy. I really need some decent clear sky now, so I will have the ETX and the Explorer set up together. Thanks

Default Just picked up an ETX-60AT

    Hi,
Been outside tonight with the ETX, alighned okay and no problems. After a while I got the error `Motor Failure`and everything stopped, and the scope would not work. I had checked the batteries that were in with a battery tester, and they showed okay. I put some new batteries in, and it started to work okay, went outside again and again aligned okay. It seems to me that this scope is going to `eat` the batteries. I have a power tank which I use with my Skywatcher Explorer, so I am going to make up a power lead for this. The power tank has a 9volt output. This defeates the portability of the ETX though, if you have to use a power tank. I will see how long I get with the batteries before I get the `Motor Failure` error again. I did find the scope okay when using it though. The focus was quite accurate, and the star/object was quite clear.

On my Meade DS2000 goto mount, the batteries always die before the low battery indicator comes up.

The ETX's optics are great to say the least ...Nice and crisp ... Sharp across the field as well ...The scope is very portable ..Once you set it up and do an alignment you don't want to move the scope ...The power tanks will save you lots of money in Duracell battery's ....Just make sure to check the polarity before you make a cord for the scope/power tank ....A lot of scopes have been fried due to inproper polarity ...Just a suggestion here ....

I have just made up the lead so i can use my power tank with the ETX. We have some cloud at present, but I think this will clear then I can give it a go.

Congratulations! It's quite a fun scope. I hope you have lots of fun with it in the future.

Thanks. I was outside last night for a while, but then the cloud came down. This scope is a bit different from the Explorer 130Pgoto. I used the easy align and it chose Pollux and Rigel. It did not actually centre on Pollux, I had to centre it my self. After it went to Rigel, the cloud came down and I packed up and went indoors. I am going to set it up in daylight, and go through the various menu`s of the handbox to familiarise my self with the scope. When I did centre Pollux, I was quite impressed with the optical quality of the scope, I was only using a 25mm eyepiece. I am hoping for some clear sky tonight, but in my part of the UK, that is very rare!!

I picked up one of these a few days ago. Several people have posted about motor noise, especially when tracking, however to me it isn't so much a grinding noise I hear, but more like a series of beeps. I contacted the UK distributors, who told me it's quite normal.

So would any of you decsribe the tracking motor noises as including beeps?

Yep thats the way they sound when they are tracking. I have an etx 80 and it sits there and beeps and chirps all night when its tracking. Does a good job though for what it is.

Had a good session outside tonight. Alighned okay with no problems. Got a good view of Saturn using a 6mm eypiece(off my Explorer 130P goto). I would also say that the noise is a series of beeps and chirps. I am very pleased with the ETX now.
