    Default Meade lx-70 w/ etx 90 attatched.

So I bought a meade etx 90 because my 3 yr old daughter wouldn't stop asking about the stars, galaxies, planets etc. Its an older RA model that I purchased and a set of orion eye pieces. Well the motherboard for the tracking system stopped working. So I did some research and bought a decent tripod and mount meade lx-70 for it on sale. I plan to remove the housing and mount the scope itself to the lx-70 mount. I bought a amd I believe 7" dovetail. I think I got myself a new hobby. I wanna put dual axis motors on it. I also wanna get into astro photography so recomendations for a nice refractor thats cheap but not worthless. I believe that this hobby became more mine then hers she really enjoys it still but I think its taking over me. Anyways just wanted to see how you guys feel about this setup or have any ideas to offer to improve my setup. Thanks

The LX70 is a very good mount/tripod. It's solid and handles windy conditions. I manually track, but Meade sells a motor for the mount for about $130. There's a YouTube video showing off the motor.

It sounds like a good combination to get started.
What budget are you setting for the refractor?

Hi thanks for the reply. I am not sure if the meade drives are good enough for astrophotography. Not even sure if the mount is suitable either. I have read mix reviews. I know my etx isn't really good for AP but its what I got. Just trying to gather the basics bit by bit.

To be honest not sure. Dont know which refractor is good for AP or if thats the right option to begin with. What would you suggest?

Would you want to image planets/ lunar or DSOs?
Equipment can a bit specialized for photography.
What makes a good AP setup will most likely not be a great one for visual.

I would look through the AP image gallery as they list the equipment used so it will give you a bit of an idea on cost/ time.

Thats a good idea, I will scavence through the forum. Does anyone use the etx for AP? I have a modified webcam for the etx it slips into x2 barlow. Would I get anything good from that? Also im buying a DSLR. I know this is not AP section and didnt intend for it to go that direction. I was just excited about the mount. Gonna post pictures when I get the mount next week. Thanks!

With a focal length of f/13.8 it would be good for planets and lunar imaging.
