Default Meade ETX-80 and Astro Photography

    Hi All,
I bought a T-Ring to use my Canon Xsi, it connects to the back and takes nice pictures, but with this method I cannot zoom and get close up views. Is their anyway to take the zoomed in pictures that you see through the eyepieces or connect the camera lens?

    Thanks!

Yes. There are other adapters that will let you use the camera with eyepiece projection (eyepiece + camera body) or afocal (eyepiece + camera with lens).

Could you point me to what they would be called when I search for them?

I personally use a Orion SteadyPix SLR Camera Mount with my ETX-80. It mounts to the eyepiece holder tube and the Camera goes at the Eyepiece.

That will do the trick for you. One thing to consider. You will now have a lot of weight hanging on the back of your telescope as well as extending the moment arm significantly. The ETX80 mount can only handle so much.

Question. Doesn't the ETX 80 have a built-in barlow? If so, have you tried photographing using it? This should double your image size.

I was at work when I made my last post and they block images on the network there. The item I post is NOT what I have. I have this for my ETX-80. Orion SteadyPix Universal Camera Mount I apologize for the confusion this may have caused.

Yes that will work also-- remember --- that the ETX has a rear photo port BUT !!! when you attach a camera to the back it can no longer be pointed high up in the sky as the camera will impact the base.
