The key problem with your question is the phrase "were put." The passive construction here implies the word "by" after "put," and that implies one that puts, an agent of putting, if you will.
Also, the word "believe" smacks somewhat of an ism, as far as I can tell.
My position?
I don't believe in someone/something "putting" the animals or us anywhere. Evolution is a fact, and the result is this: Animals are here. We are here. Technology gives us the upper hand right now, but in the wild they're all over us.
Should we eat them to survive? I believe so. We are part of the food chain too.
Should we kill them and skin them to make expensive garments? Kill them so that we can stuff their heads for mounting on a trophy wall? I don't buy it.

Default A contradicting attitude

In any sence of being,we are on this earth as well as the animals, fungi, plants and all the other inhabitants. The human race has become so nieve to believe in the fact that together a creator made us. We all live off each other. When did humans force their way in thinking that we are better? Sure we may have the capabilities to kill, hunt, and devour, but does that give us the right to? For example if we take out an insect we change the whole aspect and meaning of this world. Bees are a pest right, stastistics say that mankind would have only 4 years to live if they vanished! Any thing that a human does in order to control only makes more pain in the end!
