Default What would happen if the Earth stopped orbiting the sun?

Still rotating on its own axis but not longer going round the sun.

It would be the Spring forever and we wouldn't have to worry about leap years.

Also the minor point that if we stopped orbiting, by which I assume is meant that the earth stays still even though rotating...we would fall into the sun, because after all, orbiting is just a free fall around the sun, which is pulling us into into her, from being so ginormous.

We'd stop experiencing seasons. Then jupiter would sweep by in its orbit, and knock our bizarre stationary planet clear out of the solar system.

We'd definitely fall into the sun since there wouldn't be any momentum to propel us around it in an orbit, as there currently is. So, we'd be a little toasty

Oddly enough if we were to stand still in space, we'd be moving a million miles an hour tangentially outwards from the galaxy.
If we had stopped in the wrong part of the orbit, we'd be dragged straight into the sun, if we were on the right part of the orbit, we'd whiz off out of the solar system and become a free planet.

Not very long I suspect. About the only reason there is life here is because of energy from the sun.
