    Question Meade LightBridge Deal/Questions!

Ok, I think I've made my new telescope decision!

Tomorrow...I may jump on a new 10'' Meade LightBridge telescope!

    Here's my deal:

    Purchased at Telescopes.com
    1 - Meade LightBridge Telescope = $599
    2 - Premium QX Eyepieces - 15mm & 20mm - FREE
    Best Price Guarantee - Free
    Shipping - $25 shipping
10% off total purchase (coupon code) -$59.90

    TOTAL: $564.10

Sound reasonable? Anyone know of a BETTER deal?

Good choice? I'm upgrading from my 4.5" Bushnell Reflector I've had for years. (not the best, I know!)
I like the idea I can break the Meade LB down and use it in different locations. Storing will be much better too. (ie...no home observatory)

QUESTION FOR LIGHTBRIDGE USERS: Does a person absolutely need a shroud? Will it effect what I see without it...in a reasonably dark location?

Hi Jolly .... In addition to the 10in scope deal with the two free eyepieces ...That scope comes with the 26mm 2in eyepiece ...The QX eyepieces are top notch stuff buddy ... Is there any way you could be convinced to get the 12in scope though ? 2 more inches is a bunch more light ...A 10in gathers 78in but a 12in gathers a whopping 113in ...Pretty substantial upgrade ...Dont get me wrong here ...A 10in is a awesome scope but i think the 12in will blow you away ....My next scope will be a 12in light bridge ...

I'm not a LB user, nor a truss design user(yet), but I've read a lot on them.

There are quite a few reasons to use a shroud.

Here are 3 off the top of my head.

Dew - If it's going to be a dewy night, expect it to get on your primary without a shroud.

Light - If there’s any extra light around, it CAN affect your viewing. Depends on the amount of light.

Wind - And I hear this can be annoying, having wind blow through your scope, causing wavy blurs to the images due to temperature changes in both the air between mirrors, and temp changes of the mirrors themselves.

A good shroud helps prevent or lessen these. So of course on ideal nights and a good dark site, you'll probably be fine without one.

Other people that deal with truss' will surely be along to post as well =)

Welcome to the forum and grats on whatever scope you land on!!!

There was a guy on here that just got his lightbridge scope and was using it without a shroud ... I don't know if he didn't have one or just wasn't using it yet , but a random person just happened to sneeze while they were checking out his scope and they sneezed on the primary mirror .... He said he would always have a shroud on his scope after that incident ...

Hi Jolly.. Grats on your scope decision, those LB's are nice

I'm not going to add anything new to the mix, but I would like to second on a couple of previously mentioned points.

    - as mmmstars says, get the shroud. If for no other reason than to keep dew off the mirrors.
    - as Rich suggests, think hard about getting the 12" instead. If you can handle the size of a 10" then you can handle the 12" no problem. It's worth it.

I probably could go with the 12'', however it would have to wait a few more months.
By then, my wife will be in CHRISTMAS SHOPPING MODE, and she'll clean me out! :-)
    A 12'' would be nice.....

You know, I had originally settled on an 8". My mind has changed from an Orion Intelliscope 8", to a Zhumell 10", to a Meade 10" LB....all in about a week!

I'll add the shoud to the list of accessories I'll need:
    shroud

Clear skies with your new purchase. Whether its an 8, 10 , or 12 inch, it will be a great step up from your current scope.

Telescope buying is like new car buying. You go in with the perfect car in mind and then .... only a few dollars more you can have the delux model .... oh for a few dollars more .... we can have the super gizmo .... etc. Before you know it the price has doubled.

Hey Jolly. I really wana get a dob sometime soon. Let us know how first light goes. Also if you look around some, there's a lot of info and ideas on making your own shroud for a truss dob. Looks easy to make, and the materials are relatively inexpensive.

Velcro is a wonderful thing for those of us that cant sew.

    Jolly:

I have the 8" brother to the 10" LB and i do not have a shroud....yet. The only time I have really noticed any extra light was when my wife was burning those citronella candles and she put a TIm Hortons empty cup in it to keep the fire going. The extra light did cause some interference. OTher than that I have not experienced any need for a light shroud. With that being said, the dew would be enough reason to get one.

Sounds like you are getting quite a good deal. I paid more for my 8" LB
