My first scope was an Xt8i. I could never get the intellescope part to work properly so I just used it like a regular dob. When I started, I probably knew about three or four constellations at the most. IMO, I'd just skip the electronics and use it the way it's simplest. I'd recommend five must haves for a Dob.

    1. RACI - right angle correct image finder scope.
    2. Rigel or Telrad
    3. Astronomy chair.
    4. a pair of binos.
    5. SkySafari or MobileObservatory or other planetarium software.

After a couple of years tooling around the sky with the Dob, people complimented me on my knowledge and speed at finding objects. It sounds intimidating at first, but it's really not that difficult. I helped a friend of mine get his manual Dob set up and was there when he found his first DSO. In a very short time, he could find stuff pretty easily.
