Default Any Other Obsession Owners Out There?

I know of Skybird who has the same scope I have (18" UC).

I have had mine since May of 2017 and so far it has been a good scope, but I really wish I could do more dark-sky observing with it.

    Any other folks out there???

I have a 15" classic that I bought just over a year ago, it was made in 2004 so about 15 years old, #1010, got it with 3 Televue eyepieces, a big barlow, 2"laser collimator and two Telrad finders for about $1600 US
I know of one person in South Africa that's got one, it's also a 18" UC. I am planing to take it to our star party at the end of June at Gansvei : an excellent dark site.

I haven't been out since December. Bad weather mostly. I am itching to throw the 18UC in the car and get some eyepiece time. Maybe Spring will help.

I think the two of you have the best combination of portability and resolution available from Obsession. I definitely do not have the resources to import one to South Africa : except from the price the Rand is very weak and import duties very high. I was very lucky to find mine on a local buy and sell site and I knew this is going to be my only chance of owning a Obsession, so I drove to the sellers house the next day (400 Km) and did the deal!

PS to be honest at the time I valued the Televue eyepieces more than the Obsession but that chanced on the first night at a dark site with good conditions!

    Hi Michael,
I'm not an Obsession owner as you know, but my 12.5" f/6 NMT has nearly the same focal length as your 18". Always thought they would make an interesting comparison.

Last year I went up to Lake Sonoma a number of times, mini-events sometimes attended by the illustrious Steve Gottlieb with his 24" scope. It's fairly dark up there, and not terribly far. I could let you know when/if we go again. Sometimes it's short notice depending on weather...

    I don't own an Obsession, but I've spent a lot of time peering through my brother's 20" f/5. He also has a 15" f/4.5.

The views through the 15" are jaw-dropping, the views through the 20" are beyond description.

I've been trying to talk him out of the 15", but even used and at "family" price, it's too rich for my blood.
