Default Using skeye with a dob.

Has anyone mounted a tablet or phone to the scope to use skeye? I was thinking of using a 2 inch telrad base but I think it would clutter my scope to much.

I tried with a $50 Boost cell phone. I found that the magnetometer did not work within 2 ft of the OTA. The inclinometer was fine.

Somebody here, a few years back, added a length of pipe threaded into a small base attached to the dob base. On the upper end was a small tray to hold a phone or tablet.

I can't for the life of me think of who that was or the thread detailing the modification.

If you do a search on Amazon for "tablet clamp mount" you might get some fun ideas too.

Well I tested it last night and as long as I'm 2 inches off the tube and 2 inches away from the telrad and finder then I have no magnetic problems. There use to be a phone base for cars that double-sided tape to the dash and had a flex pile to mount the phone on but now that I need it can't find it lol.

I strapped a cell phone with skyeye to my Telrad finder. Works pretty well but what worked better, is my IPad hooked to a stalk and fixed to the base of my truss tube dob box. I use Sky Safari plus on it and use it to help to guide to the location. It is a very nice program and customizable in appearance.

That's what I was looking to do is a stalk and the. Use my phone or a tablet. But I haven't decided on my stalk yet. Even looking at a 4inch telrad base extension but that would be too cluttered :/
