    Default Buying a VIXEN Lanthanum Wide 42mm 2" Eyepiece for a Dob 8" Orion skyquest 5.9 f/r ?

    hi everyone,

Im thinking about buying the vixen Lanth wide 42mm 2" for my Dobsonion 8" skyquest reflector scope.

Since I live in an area where the closest astronomy meetings, shop is which is 2 other cities away from me... so roughly 85 km.... I know it sucks... so i cant really test out eye pieces...but.

you think this 42" will be a good buy for this telescope? thanks! - Im only 20 so my exit pupil is probably fairly large.

You may be pushing the limits a bit. That'd give you a 7mm exit pupil in an f6 scope, so you might waste a little bit of light in a 5.9 one... If you have local lights though, your pupils might not reach a big enough size to take it all in, in which case you may start seeing the shadow of your secondary mirror... For slower scopes like SCTs it'd be fine.

Haven't tried the 42mm myself, but I do like the shorter Vixen LVWs (17mm .. 5mm).

Adam , I view out of a Z10. The lowest you should go with your 8" is in the 30mm+ range , I'll take the Cannon to 35mm absolute lowest power.Your skyquest 8" just isn't made to perform adequately below the comfort zone.I would read the specs on that scope before making a decision that cost you money. Living my life through the eyepiece.
