Red face Looking for a good 40mm or 41mm eyepiece

Anyone know of a good 40mm to 41mm eyepiece out there besides a Televue? The price is a bit to much for me. Looking for something with a wide field of view & good eye relief. I need some opinions. I will be using it in my f4.5 UL16.
    Thanks!

    Sorry I cannot help you.

When you are talking that kind of focal length you need to have a 2 inch eyepiece and a lot of glass. That gets expensive in a hurry and the market is small so you end up buying eyepieces which are pretty darned close to custom made and expensive.

I hope someone else has a line on something cheap. I'd probably be haunting Astromart.

The closest I've been able to find (and it is actually quite inexpensive) is this: 2", 38MM FL, ERFLE EYEPIECE UPGRADED - Surplus Shed But it is 38mm rather than the 40 or 41mm that you want. But the price is very good. . .

Not sure of your budget, but the Explore Scientific 68° eyepieces are top drawer quality and performance:

    Explore Scientific 2" 68° Series Argon-Purged Waterproof Eyepiece - 40mm

Or if you want something a bit cheaper, I know many like the GSO Superviews:

    GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 42mm

I have an older 2" 40mm Scoptronix Maxvie II, 55% FOV.

It came with my second scope the 8" NexStar and I love it.

These come up from time to time on the used market, I really like mine and 20mm + eyerelief.

I am looking for a 2" close to 50mm, let me know what you find out.

    Thanks.

If you can find them and don't mind owning a hand grenade.. its really the size of a 8oz coffee mug
    I actually quite like my Meade 4000 2" 40mm.... its only a 60 degree..
Meade is closing them out for $60 one other place that still had them was $99

    Meade Series 5000 40mm Plössl Eyepiece #07656 (2

I did not like the matching 32mm much and sold that (came as a pair)

Hey Alan, have you looked at the 50mm GSO Superview? I haven't, but I know they are pretty popular EPs: GSO 2" SuperView Eyepiece - 50mm

Thanks Alan, I will do some research on the GSO,

I have the Celestron 2" Ultima 22mm and 32mm (70%) along with that Scoptronix 40mm (55%) and a High Point Scientific HD Barlow that is supposed to be a GSO but just branded differently and supposed to be good.

The 50mm GSO sounds very interesting - once you have 2" EPs it's hard to go back.

    Thanks

    Ken,

As you see I have been looking for a 2" 50mm that I can afford and now have the GSO to look at, but the FOV is not great, but acceptable. Any thoughts on others, if you get a chance?

    Thank.

What I can say is that when I tried a 56mm on my SCTs.. They had a dark area in the center... as the secondary shadow was coming into view..
