I also agree that the 10" is the way to go. You would soon grow tired of wrestling with that 100 pound water heater. I've got an Apertura 10" Dob, and I'm so glad that I didn't go for the 12".

I had 2000 to spend after selling my cpc1100. I wanted the 12in goto dob, but bought the xt10g. It is a great scope and yes not a fan of the two supplied ep's. The bonus for me with the extra money was I was able to buy a snow blower. It was a win win for me.

    Hi,

In my opinion, the main issue is portability, don't forget : the best telescope is the one you will use the most often, the portability is crucial.

A dob mount is really not workable for AP and just get the motors now because if you get them later it will cost you more AND you will have to install them yourself.

    I plan on the XX14g myself .
I would still like to here from anyone who has used any of the XXg models in any form of astro photography.
If I can get a 10 to 15 second image centered I will be very happy ..
    I have stated before I use a Stellacam-3 ..
I have a 12 inch SCT... and do not use a wedge..

By the way If anyone has a 14 XXg JMI products would like some photos of the focusing knobs from several angels to make a moto focus for it ..

    Ed
