| I also find m81 and m82 easy. Easiest galaxies to see, after m31 IMHO m27 (dumbell) and m57 (ring) are also very easy star-hops. M43 is just above m42, so that's another easy one - and m40 (the double star near Megrez is also easy IMHO) Surprisingly to some people, I also find m51 to be quite easy - by that I don't mean it's bright, or that I can see much detail with a small scope - what I mean is that I can 'plonk' straight onto it within seconds, and at least detect it, with only 70mm binocs, from a moderately light-polluted site. I think most of the other easy ones have been covered already - oh, except some of the galaxies in the Virgo cluster - a few of those aren't too difficult to see - however, identifying exactly which ones you have seen, against a chart, can be a bit of a challenge for beginners. |
