Default The moon and my Messier hunt

The moon was messing with my Messier hunt last night. I can give up trying to find any galaxies in Virgo right now bc that's basically blotted out by the moons glare right now. I tried finding M5 last night but to no avail. Everything was to bright. I've been having collimation issues with my scope too. The moon should be below the horizon beginning next week so hopefully I'll have some clear nights to continue my hunt then. If any of you vets can give me any info on how to find M5, I'd appreciate it

My C6N with the AVX mount arrived yesterday. Now just got to find the motivation to open the box and put everything together. Then I'll be

Hi Scott! I caught M5 last night, but I was familiar with the general area and centered it in the RACI. But, here is my star hop from my Messier log that may be of help:

"In Serpens, guide star was Zubeneschamali, over to 5 Serpens by way of a line HIPsters, the glob just above 5 Serpens. Again a nice ball of stars, compact in the center, swarms of others all around."

Excited news on the new scope! Hope you can get it out for some photons soon!

The moon does mess with things! I was able to grab M97 last night though it took my video camera and a Sky Glow filter to do it! A real challenge with my light pollution even when there is no moon. Open up that AVX!! I just got mine up and running and even with a quick alignment, it is awesome!

Ok I got the mount on the tripod. I powered it up and got the hand control to come on and the first thing the hand controller tells me is to align the mount with the index marks. Where are the index marks?
