Thanks for the list Alan. I definitely will give the non-Messier globs a look. But of the Messier ones I find M4 the most impressive. Had a great view of it with the Z10 last summer - stars resolved all the way to the core.

Thank you Alan! Some challenging globs there and a great list to track down. I'm up for it, though the entry in Centaurus is probably a no go for me.

Dang, I still need to grab NGC 5053 from March and Pal 5 from April. I'm getting behind!

If those two are the only ones you're behind on, then you're fine, as they're not easy typically. But I like to include a wide range of objects, ranging from those you can almost trip over while scanning the sky to those that can make you shake your head in frustration. Since we have a wide range of skills, scopes and observing conditions represented on this site, I like to provide something for everyone.

Thank you for a interesting line up for May.

I have not been out under the stars much due to the inclement weather here in the evenings.
This is however changing now that Autumn has arrived and the clouds quietly pack up and go on a three month vacation.

My main target of interest in your list this month is the Ruprecht 106 cluster.
Have you found any star charts plotting it's exact location?
I have tried looking on the net and have not found anything definitive. Mostly just images.
I would require something spanning the entire constellation with it listed.
In fact I was getting very frustrated looking for one and quit after the first hour.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Funny how I cannot find a printable chart online!

Clinton, try the Deep Sky Hunter Atlas at the below link. It is plotted on chart #84, due north of Crux.

Printable Deep Sky Atlases - Deep Sky Watch

I am sure it is also plotted on the Tri-Atlas, likely the B and C sets. But I know its on the one above.

You're quite welcome Clinton. I had noticed you've been quiet of late, and happy to see you stirring again. A constant supply of clouds will certainly take the wind out of one's sails. Glad your autumn brings with it clear skies and opportunities to chase your southern wonders. Good luck with Ru106 and hopefully you will be able to pull it through your big light dome.

By the way, while in Centaurus, why not also see if you can pick up Ruprecht 108, an open cluster that is also plotted on chart #84 east of Crux. It is a loose association of stars listed at mag 7.5. Not an impressive cluster, but something off the beaten track. FYI, the Ruprecht catalog is named for Czech astronomer Jaroslav Ruprecht, who cataloged open clusters. Ru106 was originally thought to be an open cluster but over time it was proven to be a globular instead. Good luck!
