Default What should M31 look like through a 25mm ep with 2 x Barlow on a 6" reflector?

I only got my telescope yesterday, and it only came with the 1 25mm ep and a 2 x Barlow, I think I am looking at M31 at the moment but am unsure as it just looks like another bright star! Is this what it should look like with this magnification?
Also what is the most impressive DSO I would see at the moment in the UK with this magnification?

    Thanks

    Steve

    A fuzzy, gray oval.

Try looking at M42 in Orion and take a look at the Trapezium. That's a great one this time of year.

If it looks like a star it's not it. Agree with the fuzzy gray oval characterization. Take a look at your charts and move Mirach to mu to nu. Since you are already in the neighborhood, try M45 which is a very distinctive cluster and then the Double Cluster. They will be just fine in the 25mm EP.

First, make certain you know how to find it using your star atlas. It definitely will not look like a star. You should be able to find it with just the 25mm (no barlow). That would be the easiest way to locate it as it gives you a wider field of view than using the barlow. As said it should look like an oval smudge of light, with some brightening in the center. Just how large the oval will appear will be impacted by how bad your light pollution is. Main thing is not to expect it to look like the magazine photos you see.
