Default Asteroid near miss on Jan 8th

The 1-2m asteroid was discovered a few hours after its closest approach to Earth, which was 8600 km above the surface, well inside geosynchronous orbits.

That was a poorly-written sentence, wasn't it? It should not have had a comma after "Earth", and probably should have been rearranged. As written, it suggests that Earth was 8600 km above the surface (of the asteroid, presumably)! I'll have to fire my proof-reader. Hopefully, everyone is sufficiently used to "Internet-English" to have figured it out.

Hi Kathy. Don't worry about the wording. Our brains have a built in "auto correct" as we read. Thanks for this amazing report about asteroid 2019 AS5 Kathy, which wasn't discovered until 9 hours after it's closest approach to earth.

In my sense (but I'm not a native english speaker ! ), the comma avoids the misunderstanding.
