Default Celestron Onyx on a SLT GoTo mount

    Hi,
has anyone fitted a Celestron 80 ED Onyx to a Celestron 60 SLT GoTo.
When I try and fit it the correct way in the dovetail, the finder ends
up under the scope because it is on the left of the scope in relation to
the dovetail. Only if I rotate the scope lengthways about the dovetail does it end up on
top (and easier to use and see through) but then the focusser fouls on
the battery compartment when aiming the scope upwards to Zenith.
    Anyone understand my predicament?

    Hi, I understand your problem.

Instead of rotating your OTA, perhaps removing your finder scope and adding a telrad or red dot finder on top will work. The telrad attaches with double sided tape and requires no drilling, etc.

I put a C6S on the SkyWatcher version of the Celestron SLT mount. The C6S finder scope ends up below the OTA; at the 7 oclock position ...... tough position to use..... I cheated and mounted a telrad on top and seldom use the finder scope. With the accuracy of the SkyWatcher goto mount, even with the 5+ kg load I have on it, the object is always in the center third of the view of a 32mm eyepiece and a finder scope is not needed (exception is Saturn for some reason). The Celestron SLT mount ought to be the same. I really only use the telrad to find alignment stars and to practice star hopping. It works just fine for that and I suspect any red dot finder will too.

When I put the C6S back on its CG5 mount, the telrad finder is in an odd position at the 3 oclock position. At the moment, I simply remove it and use the finderscope only. However, I really like the telrad and am thinking about simply getting another mounting base for it so I can use it on my CG5 mount too.
